SGIG Shelton Riddick

Deputy of the Orient, SGIG Shelton Riddick is a native of Norfolk County, now known as the City of Chesapeake. He is the son of the late Mrs. Ella Mae Riddick, a wonderful and beautiful lady who was both mother and father to him.

God has blessed him with a wonderful wife, Mrs. Shirley D. Riddick, and one son, Rev. Cardell C. Patillo and three adopted daughters who are now married, Madia, Mia, and Gina. SGIG Riddick has one brother, James Riddick; a sister-in-law, Ana Riddick; two sisters, Elezinia Griffin and Gennice Fong; two God children, and several nephews.

SGIG Riddick graduated from Crestwood High School in 1969 where he lettered in track. Afterward, he was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War era. After his tour, he worked during the day and attended school at night, receiving his degree in Management and Business Administration, with Certifications in Industrial Management and Air Conditioning/Refrigeration.

A former member of Celestial Baptist Church of Portsmouth, VA, his devotion and present membership is at First Baptist Church, South Hill of Chesapeake. He currently serves there on the Pastor’s Aide Committee and the Usher Board under Pastor Rev. Michael R. Tolliver.

Our Deputy of the Orient has owned his own business, Riddick Heating/Air Conditioning Service for over twenty years. He is a member of Brighton Light Chapter, #118 of the Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of VA, (PHA). He joined Washington Lodge #323 in Portsmouth VA in 1979 and since that time has received numerous awards and honors. His high honors include that he was the recipient of the Grand Master’s Cup, the highest annual award in Virginia Prince Hall Masonry, under MWGM Billie L. Thompson, Sr. SGIG Riddick has served as Past Right Eminent Grand Commander of King Baldwin Grand Commandery, Knights Templar of VA, (PHA) and Most Excellent Past Grand High Priest of King Cyrus Grand Chapter, Holy Royal Arch Masons (PHA). He is the only known man to have actually been elected to and led both of these Grand Bodies in Virginia as well as the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Virginia, F & A.M., Inc where he served as Most Worshipful Grand Master from 2012-2014.

SGIG Riddick was appointed as Deputy of the Orient for Virginia in 2015 under the late SGC Deary Vaughn.

He believes that God has blessed all of us with talents, and when given the opportunity, we must always do the best that we can. His favorite Bible verse is Philippians 3, Verses 13-14: ‘Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Jesus Christ.’
